do you remember

Dec 10, 2011

Holiday Time means gatherings with friends and family. This time we’ll be going over to Elsie and Ray Carter’s home in Building 69 on the American Side of Oldtown Gander. They will host an evening of fun and frivolity.  It will be a virtual kitchen party, complete with entertainment by students Bob McKinnon and David Naish and recipes from some of our students’ moms.

Sample the buffet and test out some of the recipes for yourselves.

There promises to be a special guest which should remind us of traditions long past (one which is believed to have been brought from England or Ireland). One important part of the custom was a guessing game to determine the identity of some of the visitors.

We hope that this party inspires you to recall similar parties held when growing up in Newfoundland.  And, we welcome those stories to become part of our record on our Flight website.

Before you leave this party, we encourage you to share a comment or two on the guest page.

Merry Christmas everyone from our homes to yours. And thanks to the Carters for opening their home for this ‘virtual get together’ this time. You have to love their tree with some of their gifts and the two little boys, Don and Bob, who grew up with us. (Folks: This was what a typical family tree, decorations and gifts looked like in that 1949 era).

So, come on into the kitchen, take off your heavy coat, and enjoy a cup of cheer and remember…
